CRUISE TSIRIBIHINA RIVER: CANOE TRIP + BAOBAB ALLEY

This trip by canoe on Tsiribihina river is a short of expedition and adventure at the west coast of Madagascar. Note that Tsiribihina river is the most popular river which tourist done cruise at Madagascar. After river cruise, our trip will get directly to visit Tsingy de Bemaraha national park located at Bekopaka. Observation of other nocturnal wildlife at Kirindy reserve, the famous baobab alley on sunset at Morondava. We don’t forget to visit famous site where we can find many kinds of lemurs such as Andasibe Mantadia national park.

Day 1

Antanananarivo – Andasibe

Assistance at hotel; continue our trip to RN2. It's possible to visit Pereyas reserve with a short break for photos at Mandraka.

Day 2

Andasibe

This park regroup special reserve such us INDRI INDRI. The reserve is indeed famous for its INDRI colonies with a powerful shout and impressive size. A 4 hour tour will be offered for ANALAMAZAOTRA; departure to VAKONA private reserve in the afternoon.
Day 3

Andasibe – Antsirabe

Same route as day 1; we cross the refreshing highlands with their surprising mud houses, their small churches perched on nipples or on the hillside with imposing rocks everywhere, the rice field terraces like a big staircase and sadder, lavaka due by the erosion but not less spectacular. We stop in a small village served a good meal for lunch. We continue our trip with rythm "MORAMORA" to the south by visiting the aluminum cooker manufacturing at Ambatolampy. From here is the coldest country at Madagascar especially during austral winter.

Day 4

Antsirabe – Miandrivazo

City tour by rickshaw: miniature, colonial buildings house like cathedral, baths thermal ... Departure to Miandrivazo; visit volcanic lakes such us Andraikiba and Tritriva. Our lunch is in a small village board on the route and served a good Malagasy dish .

Miandrivazo is a big village surrounded by a mountain and peaceful place; starting point for Tsiribihina river trip.

Day 5

Tsiribihina river trip

Let's go for an adventure trip during 3 days and 2 nights; before entering to the gorge, our journey is framed by beautiful landscapes with whistlers of various varieties of birds. There are for example chameleons, herons ...

Night under tent and food in bivouac.
Day 6

Tsiribihina river trip

This is our second day on river tsiribihina; life flows slowly over the river and you can discover on the beginning of the journey cultivation of rice, tobacco, zebu breeding and fishing but also toilet, cooking or traditional laundry.

Always under tent and food in bivouac accompagned by the local guy sing with their folk materials.
Day 7

Antsiraraka – Belo/Tsiribihina

It's the last day on the river. We stop in a small village called Tanambao; parrots, bats and maybe crocodiles decorate this last day. We will take a zebu cart around 6 km to reach a small village built around a large big baobab trees called Antsiraraka; it is the only way to reach this village because there is a marigolds infested by a crocodile. Our 4wd waiting here and drive us to Belo / Tsiribihina. Arrival at Tsimafana village after 2 hours of trip then crossing again Tsiribihina river by ferry.

Day 8

Belo/Tsiribihina – Bekopaka

Departure to Tsingy village in the afternoon. It's an off-road trip about 100km but in 4 hours drive with a good 4wd. We passed more village during our trip and we will find children's happiness to see the car and tourist inside. Crossed Manambolo river by ferry then check-in to Tanankoay or Orchidées hotel.
Day 9

Bekopaka: Tsingy Bemaraha national park

Tsingy de Bemaraha National Park is unique in the world, classified world heritage by UNESCO as well as the natural of media inventory and the operation Okavango of Nicolas Hulot, references and superlatives. Don’t miss to describe these formations karst in needle shapes whose means of access are as epic as the geological history of its famous peaks.

We start our visit to big Tsingy; crossed by a gigantic labyrinth and its cathedral; climbing up to the point of view and the belvedere then get down to the starting point.

Back to Bekopaka village in the afternoon to visit small Tsingy.

Night to Tanankoy or Orchidés hotel.
Day 10

Bekopaka - Kirindy

Road trip as day 8; we have around one hour for lunch and break at Belo / Tsiribihina to enjoy their shellfish dishes then crossed river Tsiribihina again by ferry. Off-road direction to Kirindy reserve. This reserve has an area of 12,500ha with a dry forest. Before, it was managed by the Swiss but now it's managed together with Malagasy government. Kirindy is an ecological reserve to preserve the endangered species of trees: for example "fake camphor" , which entered the manufacture of the erotic statuary Sakalava-Vezo, unfortunately looted since. You can see a reproduction of this type of funerary art on this site, and explanatory panels well done on wildlife.

There are also 2 species of diurnal lemurs such as propithecus verreauxi and lemur fulvus rufus. Not more: fosa and kapidolo tortoise.

Day 11

Kirindy - Morondava

We have 3 or 4 hours to visit Kirindy then drive to Morondava passing through Baobab forest. Morondava is the capital of Menabe, also garden baobab. We are lucky to see sacred baobab, baobab in love and the famous baobab alley on the sunset.

Day 12

Morondava - Antsirabe

Day trip to Antsirabe; we pass again at Miandrivazo where we stop for lunch.

We will continue “MORAMORA” to Antsirabe for the afternoon.

Overnight to Green park hotel.
Day 13

Antsirabe - Antananarivo

Road direction to Antananarivo; city tour like visiting queen palace, railway station and possible to buy some souvenirs at “digue market”. Transfer at the airport for international flight.
